Gardening was always something I said I would do “In the future”. It was not until recently that I even attempted to learn how to keep a houseplant alive, not to mention grow an entire garden. I never had a green thumb and wouldn’t even pretend I did by having a living plant in the house. My dad who is an expert gardener, taught my son everything that he knew about plants and keeping them healthy. I was not interested at the time, but encouraged my son to learn as much as he could.
Flashing forward 15 years, in 2019 (after I moved to the south) my dad flew to Atlanta, Ga. in order to help me with a few renovation projects I wanted to do around the house. While visiting, he decided to teach my daughter and I all the things that he had taught my son while we lived in Cleveland, OH.
I was more receptive this time around, but still very much afraid of killing any living plants. We decided to sat a very small potted garden in the yard and a few in house plants. I began with just a few peppers and tomatoes outside and Aloe plants that I keep indoors. Much to my surprise, a year had passed and I was able to keep my plants alive!
When Covid hit North America News in March of 2020, I had already prepared my mind to gear up into the gardener mode. By the time other people began to quarantine, we had already started buying seeds and planting crops. My anxiety about the Corona Virus had set in completely within the first few months and I began to panic about food shortages and having enough “Health Food” to feed my family and friends.
I began to feel as though my small potted garden was not enough, and I decided to build a huge garden in my backyard. Because gardening also relaxed my mind and helped with Anxiety, I went full force. Everyday that I was physically able, I was outside soaking up the sun and digging in the soil. During this time I decided to film and post my journey so that other people who were interested can learn and be motivated to do the same thing.
Being Quarantined gave me the time and opportunity to build a garden that not only supplied us health, organic food to eat, but it gave me an outlet to help deal with all the anxiety and fears that I had about Covid_19.
We share our Gardening videos with everyone in hopes of inspiring others to try something that they never thought they could do, as well as help as many people as possible make healthier food choices.
